Quilmes AC

At the age of 14, Chori signed with Quilmes (the oldest football club in Argentina, founded in 1887) after spending four unsuccessful years in the youth system of hometown club Lanús.

Alejandro earned his nickname, 'Chori', while at Quilmes. Domínguez ended up taking one of the older player's spot in the team. He was given the #10 shirt and a spot in the starting lineup. The other kids joked that he had arrived to steal their spots in the team ("El Chori" means "The Thief" in English).

River Plate

After the U-20 World Cup in 2001, which Argentina won, Chori signed with Argentine power River Plate. The move was a bit of a gamble by River. In the quarterfinals of the U-20 World Cup against France, Chori came on as a substitute in the 68th minute. He would have to be subbed off just seven minutes later though after a horror injury to his ankle.

The move paid off in the end though, as River Plate would win the Clasura Championship in 2003, lead by manager Manuel Pellegrini.

El Chori found the back of the net nine times for River Plate in 29 matches.

FC Rubin Kazan

In 2004 Chori would be on the move again, but this time he would move halfway across the world to Russia, signing for Rubin Kazan. The team and Chori struggled in 2004. After finishing third in their first season in the Russian Premier League the previous year, Rubin would finish 10th in 2004. Rubin would finish 4th and 5th the next two seasons.

Alejandro would finish his first stint with Rubin by scoring 21 goals in 63 games.

He won the Best Foreign Player award in 2006.

FC Zenit Saint Petersburg

Domínguez was signed by FC Zenit Saint Petersburg for ¤7 million before the start of 2007 Russian season, breaking the record transfer fee inside the Russian Premier League, however, that record was later broken when Danny moved from FC Dynamo Moscow to Zenit Saint Petersburg for a fee well above ¤30 million.

One of his most notable performances was in the 4-0 UEFA Cup victory over Bayern Munich which sent Zenit to the final of the competition for the first time in the history of the club. Domínguez played exceptionally well and provided two assists. Chori was filling in for the suspended Andrei Arshavin and hadn't played any matches for two months.

In the last season he had some problems with then manager Dick Advocaat and was being excluded from the team, so his former club took the chance in bringing him back to Kazan.

Domínguez had a measly seven goals during his 46 match Zenit career.

FC Rubin Kazan

Chori would have an amazing year with Rubin in 2009, helping them to their second RPL championship in two years.

He was also a massive influence in the Champions League for Rubin, scoring goals against Inter Milan and Dynamo Kiev, and getting the assist on the winning goal against FC Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Chori would score 16 goals and have seven assists in 2009, securing the top individual award in Russian domestic football, Footballer of the Year (2009).

Valencia CF

Chori's contract was due to expire in January 2010, but after negotiations with Valencia were held, Rubin terminated the remaining few days of Chori's contract to allow him to sign for Los Che on 14 December 2009.

The contract is for three and a half years, and is thought to be for ¤1.5 million (net).

The Argentine striker didn't play as much as he would have liked to in his first season, making 13 appearances, though only four were starts. He failed to score a goal in his first season, but did show some flashes of excellent ball control and precise passing.

International Career

Chori has played for Argentina at the youth level, and made three appearances at the U-20 World Cup in 2001, including scoring the game winning goal against China in the Round of 16.

Domínguez has yet to play for the senior squad of Argentina.
