Valencia CF

After helping to win the Johan Cruijff-schaal for the third consecutive time at the start of the 2007/2008 season, Maduro joined La Liga's Valencia C.F. on 18 January 2008. He was brought in under Ronald Koeman.

After Koeman's dismissal, as well as Maduro coming back late from the Olympics, he only played a very small role for Valencia in the beginning of his second season there. However, under this new coach Unai Emery, Maduro came into the squad due to injuries and suspensions and performed at various positions. Playing in midfield, central defense, and even as a right back. After a while Maduro displayed a clear progression in his play and turned into a regular for Valencia. Eventually he was used more frequently as a central defender, being preferred instead of Carlos Marchena or Alexis. It became his regular position, where he showed impressive displays against Barcelona and Real Madrid partnerring with Spanish international Raul Albiol.

International Career

He was called up for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and featured in one match against Argentina.

Despite already having amassed 12 senior caps, in 2007 he took part in the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship in the Netherlands, and also scored the competition's first goal when Jong Oranje beat Israel 1-0. He also played in their second match against Portugal (2-1 win) to secure a semi final spot and to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. In the semi finals against England the score was 1-1 after 120 minutes, in the following penalty shootout with 32 kicks taken, the Dutch reached their second straight final winning the shootout 13-12. The Dutch went on to retain their 2006 title by beating Serbia 4-1 in the final. After the tournament he was named in the 'UEFA Team of the tournament'.

After an extended absence from the national team, Maduro was called in for a friendly match v Ukraine in August 2010. He played the entire second half in defensive midfield.
