Internacional Porto Alegre
Renan made his professional debut for Internacional against Juventude in the Rio Grande do Sul State League in a 1-0 win on 3 April 2005. In 2006, he helped the Brazilian team win the FIFA Club World Cup when they defeated Barcelona.
Valencia CF
While on international duty with Brazil at the 2008 Summer Olympics, Renan would sign with Valencia CF.
He made his debut for Valencia CF in a 3-0 win against Real Mallorca. He has had a great start to his Valencia CF career and was their number one keeper, but on 20 January 2009, when he sustained a groin injury in a match against Athletic Bilbao and was ruled out for six weeks, enabling veteran César Sánchez to step in.
After recovering from his injury he remained on the bench till the end of the 2008/2009 season owing to Cesar's fine form.
Xerez CD
On 27 July 2009, Xerez CD signed the Brazilian goalkeeper on loan from Valencia.
Internacional Porto Alegre
After returning from his Xerez loan, Renan was again sent out on loan, this time back to Brazil with Internacional. An option to buy the goalkeeper was included in the deal.
International Career
Renan was a member of Brazil's team for the 2008 Summer Olympics, he was the first-choice goalkeeper for the tournament, appearing in all matches as Brazil went on to get the bronze medal. He had eight appearances with the Brazil U-23 side.
