Thiago Carleto made his professional debut for Santos in the São Paulo State Championship against Juventus-SP on 11 April 2007. He made 22 appearances in Brazil before moving to VCF.
 
Valencia CF

On 2 March 2008, English media reported that Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United were battling to sign Thiago for a fee of around £5million. Thiago has been quoted in saying "I am happy that Manchester United and Real Madrid are interested as they are two of the best clubs in the world."

On 25 November 2008, it was announced that Spanish club Valencia C.F. signed Thiago until 2014.
 
He made his debut against Malaga on 14 February 2009. He came in for Emiliano Moretti, who was injured after just 20 minutes. Carleto's debut was not very good, and he failed to make any more appearances for Valencia that season.
